Greece provides an ideal climate for snail farming, which is a very specific type of farming since it combines both crop and animal production. Therefore, before embarking on such an undertaking, the prospective snail farmer should consider the following:
a) Do we have the necessary commitment and patience required to follow this through?
b) Do we have the appropriate land, i.e. fallow land not separated by manmade or natural borders?
c) Do we have a reliable quantity and quality of water for farm irrigation, e.g wells, lakes?
There are two different studies regarding snail farming which recommend the following guidelines for land use:
A) 5.000 m2 - 10.000 m2 (for professional enterprise)
B) 10.000 m2 or more (for industrial enterprise)
